Minor league baseball team to move to Spartanburg, new stadium planned

Minor league baseball is returning to Spartanburg.
The Down East Wood Ducks, a Low-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, are set to move to the Upstate from eastern North Carolina.
“The impact it will have on this community, we can’t even say right now,” said Spartanburg Mayor Jerome Rice. “The sky is truly the limit. We will have class A office space for white collar jobs, we will have other smaller jobs affiliated with this and we will have buildings and businesses that will open.”


A Japanese commercial vehicle manufacturer has revealed big plans for the Upstate. Isuzu North America Corp., a supplier of commercial vehicles, has selected Greenville County to establish the company’s new production base in the United States, according to a news release. Air Canada has selected Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner as part of an ongoing effort to modernize and grow its fleet with an order for 18 new jets and an option to purchase 12 more. The carrier ordered 787-10 widebody Dreamliners, according to a news release. The value of the order was not disclosed. The flag carrier of the country, Air Canada will deploy the new fuel-efficient airplanes as part of its broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions while expanding its global route network, the news release said.
